Vancouver Psychotherapy and Counselling Services

ABOUT

My approach to psychotherapy is based on many years of training in both psychology and education. My passion for psychology led me to private practice after 20 years in the education sector as a teacher, counsellor, Vice Principal, and Principal of French Immersion Schools. Bridging psychology and education helps me establish a respectful, inclusive, and trusting environment that is conducive to building a strong therapeutic alliance. This alliance is fundamental in creating a collaborative approach to self-discovery, healing and growth.

Prior to my work in education and psychology, I worked in the hospitality industry for many years and spent an extensive amount of time travelling abroad studying eastern philosophies. My diverse background of work and life experience helps me navigate difficult conversations with attention, ease, and confidence. I believe that understanding and relating to diverse groups of people are fundamental in creating a safe space where one can be seen and heard. It takes time to develop a new relationship with your inner world. Reaching out to a qualified professional is the first step.

"Trust and a strong therapeutic relationship are fundamental in the healing process. The journey begins here."

Specialty

I address a variety of concerns in my clinical practice. Early childhood trauma, adult trauma, the impact of sexual abuse on children and adults, depression, anxiety, and life/career transitions are at the core of my work. I stay current in research and clinical practices by attending classes with the Western Canada Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (WCPSI) in Vancouver and the Northwestern Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (NPSI) in Seattle. Professional development and ongoing supervision are fundamental in my practice, and help guide me in a psychodynamic approach.

My work with couples and families are Gottman Method and Family Systems informed. Together, we explore communication styles, habitual patterns and relational concerns to improve well being and alleviate distress in relationships.

I am presently a Psychoanalyst in Training with the Western Canada Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (WCPSI). The designation of psychoanalyst is not protected by federal or provincial law. It is therefore prudential that before beginning an analysis the practitioner's credentials should be known. Graduate psychoanalysts train under the auspices of the Canadian Psychoanalytic Society or other component societies of the International Psychoanalytic Association or train within a component society of the American Psychoanalytic Association have very rigorous and extensive clinical education. They must also meet high ethical, psychological, and professional standards.

Psychoanalysts may come from a background of medicine, psychology, counselling or social work. Their common ground is, that in addition to their academic degrees they have gone on to obtain psychoanalytic training from a recognized psychoanalytic institute.

I believe a therapist can only take you as far as they themselves have gone. My own personal journey has been long, intense and beautiful at the same time. That said, I know with certainty that the process is worth it. Let me help you in discovering your own inner world to facilitate healing, acceptance and growth.

I offer Individual, Couples and Family Counselling both in French and English.
